Tompkins serves as a global coordinator of Sidley’s complex commercial litigation practice and as one of the leaders of the firm’s white collar crime/government investigations practice. He graduated from the JD-MPP joint degree program at Harvard University in 1975. After working at Sidley Austin LLP for four years, Tompkins worked for Phil Heymann, assistant attorney general in charge of the criminal division; Heymann had been his professor at both the Kennedy School and Law School. Tompkins worked directly with Heymann on a variety of policy and enforcement matters and then served as deputy chief of the fraud section before returning to Sidley Austin. In private practice, Tompkins has frequently represented corporate and individual clients in connection with complex internal investigations and international law enforcement matters, as well as in complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts. He was selected to be listed in the International Who’s Who of Commercial Litigators 2010, 2011 and 2012, as well as in Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in America.
